youth discuss SDG Goals at Nation Leadership Forum

The Kenyan youth engaged in a lively television debate to discuss issues relating to the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs. The live broadcast was televised on NTV and hosted at the Chandaria Auditorium, Main Campus, University of Nairobi.

Speaking during the event, the Cabinet Secretary for Devolution, Eugene Wamalwa, observed that the SDG goals of healthcare, education and food security are the same as Agenda Four goals of the Government. “We are working with the county governments to implement some of these policies. Our constitution is one of the most progressive constitutions globally and especially, chapter 11 that deals with devolution. It has enabled the country to make great progress”, he said.

Regarding food security, CS Wamalwa observed that the government has put one million acres of land under irrigation and as government they hope that will solve food security challenges. In his final submissions, CS Wamalwa noted that these SGD goals are no longer goals but fundamental human rights. He outlined the various measures that the government have put in place to ensure that the youth have equal opportunities, some of them include: allocation of 30% of government tenders, affirmative action fund and creation of Huduma Centers to ensure that government services are easily available and to help increase the ease of doing business.
